East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education is a Special Educational Interlocal. ECKCE provides services to three school districts: Baldwin (#348), Eudora (#491), and Wellsville (#289).   ECKCE’s main office is located at 600 High Street, Baldwin City, KS.

Elementary Resource Room Teacher Eudora Elementary 

The East Central KS Cooperative In Education #614 has an immediate opening this fall in Eudora Elementary School.

Special education teachers assess students’ skills to determine their needs and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student. Then plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities.

Reports to:  Building Principal and ECKCE Administrator(s)

Qualifications Education/ Experience Good communication skills Language skills Mathematical Skills Reasoning Ability.  Certificate/License Master’s Degree in Special Education 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities 1. Communication skills. Special education teachers discuss student’s needs and performances with general education teachers, parents, and administrators. They also explain difficult concepts in terms that students with learning disabilities can understand. 2. Critical-thinking skills. Special education teachers assess students’ progress and use the information to adapt lessons to help them learn. 3. Interpersonal skills. Special education teachers regularly work with general education teachers, school counselors, administrators, and parents to develop Individualized Education Programs. As a result, they need to be able to build positive working relationships. 4. Patience. Working with students with special needs and different abilities can be difficult. Special education teachers should be patient with each student, as some may need the instruction given aloud, at a slower pace, or in writing. 5. Resourcefulness. Special education teachers must develop different ways to present information in a manner that meets the needs of their students. They also help general education teachers adapt their lessons to the needs of students with disabilities. 

General Responsibilities 1. Teach students in small groups and on-one 2. Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress 3. Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals 4. Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators 5. Supervise and mentor para-professionals who work with students with disabilities 6. Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation 7. Special education teachers adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with mild and moderate disabilities. 

Physical Requirements: 1. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods. 2. Requires the ability to manually move, lift, pull or push heavy objects or materials. 3. Requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach. 4. Must be able to work in semi-noisy and crowded environments. 5. Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously. 6. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

Board contributes $480 per month toward policy, options available. Competitive salary is based on experience and education. Salary schedule at eckce.com.

Early Childhood Unified Teacher Eudora School District

The East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education 614 is seeking candidates for the position of Early Childhood Special Educator for work in a growing blended preschool environment in the Eudora School District during the fall semester 2020-21.

POSITION: Early Childhood Education Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold- or be eligible for- an early childhood unified or special education license in the state of Kansas. REPORTS TO: Building Principal and ECKCE Administrator(s)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Fulfill role of case manager for special education students age 3-5 with academic and behavioral disabilities 2. Oversee the development of compliant individualized education plans (IEP) 3. Facilitate IEP team meetings 4. Communicate frequently and effectively with parents 5. Prepare lesson plans and provide direct special education services to students 6. Create a classroom environment that is positive and conducive to learning 7. Develop and implement behavior intervention plans that include positive behavior supports 8. Work collaboratively with general education teachers to meet the needs of special education students 9. Work collaboratively with other service providers 10. Assist general education teachers with curriculum modifications necessary to enable students to participate and make progress in the general education curriculum 11. Ensure the implementation of the IEP as written. 12. Assist with evaluations of students in determining eligibility and need for special education students. 13. Assess students’ progress on a regular basis and reports this progress as required. 14. Supervise para-educators 15. Communicate as necessary with building and district administration 16. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. 17. Attend all required staff meetings and professional development activities. 18. Other duties as assigned.
